This book presents beautiful pictures of food, close-ups of single dishes and composed meal presentations. It has a fascinating collection of international boards - Indian, Thai, French, Italian, Mexican, American ... . Each of these meal/boards is described in evocative language and has hints both for the presentation and finishing touches.However, as one reads the recipes there are some questionable choices. For example, soda and lemonade require fresh whey - an ingredient not easily obtained unless one makes their own cheese. The bread recipe calls for blooming the yeast, a step that King Arthur Flour says in not required with modern yeasts. The ricotta cheese lacks the standard warning that ultra-pasteurized milk is less successful. The number of servings that recipes make are not consistent within a single meal. Some plates include deserts with melted components that may cool too far before the diners are ready.As for the beautiful photogenic presentations, so become problematic when one tries to scale to a typical meal. Many of the presentations extend beyond the visible boundaries of the boards. The time required in thrift stores to amass the appropriate serving pieces would be prohibitive for some readers.So although I love the key principles of this book on presentation and I appreciate the offering of recipes tied to specific presentation, I can only recommend the book as eye candy and as examples of interesting presentation.

Anni Daulter may style food pictures beautifully but I don't think she cooks much. She says use 'chocolate', but not what kind: semi sweet, unsweetened, what? She says beans, not dried, canned, just beans. And she's not around to ask. If you read this Anni, please give details.....
