All too often, a sequel is a let-down, but not with Raven's Feast. It's better than the first book in the series, God's Hammer - which was pretty fantastic in its own right. This book builds on a very strong central character in Hakon, who journeys through a lot of ups and downs as he takes his place as king. The plot is tightly written; I never felt bored (despite not typically liking "battle books"). And the character development is excellent. I was sad when this book was over and can't wait to see what happens next...

The conflict between Hakon and Eric Bloodaxe, his elder brother continues with the future of the Norwegian kingdom hanging in the balance. Hakon’s first challenge is to gain the confidence and alliances needed to win battles while overcoming the distrust of a man whose Christian religion is anathema to the Norse gods. The author is a gifted writer with the ability to put the reader convincingly into the fabric of the narrative. For any reader who enjoys a thoroughly grand historical novel, Raven’s Feast is a must read. I only hope there is a volume three on the way! This was a fun book. I had read the first book and this one takes you along that historical account smoothly. I like historical fictions so this was right down my alley. There is so much detail of the daily life of the time in the book and much of it is rather harsh. The characters seem real so they catch your interest. As I read more I definitely wanted to press on so that I could know what the ending was going to be. Quite a tale.

Eric Schumacher’s action-packed historical novel gives profit and pleasure to readers who seek well-researched history, spilling over with suspense. Even I, who am normally drawn to books that focus on relationships, loved this book. The historical characters, and others he created, helped humanize a brutal part of history that I might otherwise have avoided. I am so glad I didn’t. I enthusiastically commend this well-documented historical novel.

Eric is not a one trick pony. His second book in the Hakon’s saga series is just as entertaining and well written as the first. He breathes life into the characters and makes you feel like you are there in the time period. Looking forward with great anticipation to the continuing series.

Plausible characters, good story, though very fast paced. It is clear from historical documents that Hakon ruled successfully from a young age, but having be so persuasive seemed implausible. That said though he must've been or he wouldn't have ruled long. Overall good story, very engaging

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, and look forward to reading the third in this series. Very captivating story, and very interesting characters. Well done! I recommend the entire series!

Book 2 of the saga is as good as Book 1. I recommend that they be read in order. There is a fair of amount of violence in the book that may not be for the squeamish.
