A Rocky Mountain native, Eric Peterson is also the author of Frommer’s Yellowstone & Grand Teton National Parks and has contributed to Frommer’s Colorado, Frommer’s Texas, and Frommer’s National Parks of the American West. A Denver resident for most of the past decade, Peterson has also contributed to The Denver Post, EnCompass, Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel magazine, and numerous other periodicals, covering everything from high-tech startups to low-down punk bands. He recently wrote Roadside Americana (Publications International), a coffee table book due out in July 2004. When not on the road or behind a computer, Peterson enjoys cooking (he makes a mean chicken chili) and hiking, often with his faithful mutt Giblet.

The guide itself might have been worthwhile, but the INDEX was TERRIBLE!. If I knew the precise names of possible sight-seeing spots, then I wouldn't need a guidebook. Here's a great example: Wyoming is known for having an extensive amount of dinosaur fossils, but you won't find any mention of dinosaurs in the index --- unless you know the name of a dinosaur museum!! This book was abandoned in a hotel room (I apologize to the cleaning staff who ended up throwing it out), as there was no point in taking it on the remainder of our trip. Good thing I got the book used ...

There are lots of great recommendations here. Very useful for planning an itinerary. Lots of the restaurants it recommends are closed (we went to Montana and Wyoming about 9 years after the publication date of the book), but the recommended restaurants that were still in business were all very good. I look forward to the next edition because we definitely plan to go back to Montana and Wyoming some time!

I downloaded this onto my Kindle a week before a trip to Glacier National Park, and I was so glad I did! It saved us a lot of money right off the bat by giving us a tip about Access Passes to the national parks. We had no idea that my husband's disability would enable us to get into the National Parks and some other attractions free. He got the passes before we left town. It also saved us time and money by evaluating the hotels all around the park and in Whitefish. It gave the hours of operation and costs of many attractions which was very helpful in deciding what to do and when to do it. I would highly recommend it to anyone traveling to Montana, and I hope to use it next year for a trip to Yellowstone!
